Treatment Resistant Depression

When Depression persists it may be time for a new plan of action and expert care.

Depression is a common mood disorder, but it should not be written off as "normal"  especially if it persists even after trying more than one medication or intervention. Normal life should not be persistently painful or difficult to live through. For some people living with depression, they do not respond, respond inadequately, or cannot tolerate traditionally prescribed medications. For others medications used to work well, but are no longer providing relief in the way that they did before.

In cases like these a person may be dealing with refractory or 'treatment resistant' depression. which means that another medication of a similar variety is not going to cut it. In those instances working with a psychiatrist and therapist who are experts in treating depression that persists is key.

At Therapath our Founder Dr. Noorbaksh MD has clinical expertise in supporting patients who have not responded well to SSRIs and still live with debilitating symptoms of depression. We want you to know that treatment resistance is not the end of the road. There is hope. There are options. We are committed to helping you find the right treatment plan that gets you back to living life well.

Treatment Options that May Help

Simply trying out a new medication, without integrating additional treatment modalities, is rarely helpful for someone whose depression is persistent. You may need more than a prescription. Customized treatment plans will include support from a psychiatrist and therapist to ensure you are receiving care that tackles depression from a new angle. Plans may explore behavioral modification, supplementation, lifestyle changes, and a frequent cadence for therapy and psychiatry care. Some patients may benefit form interventional treatments like Spravato, or TMS. We have therapists on staff trained in ketamine assisted therapy. Please inquire if you'd like to explore KAT. If you are a candidate your Therapath team can discuss the process of pursuing interventional treatments.
