Many of us want to feel more competent and capable in living daily life and managing challenges in a skillful and effective manner.
Together we will build skills to achieve a more peaceful, intentional, and effective way of being. A main focus of our work together will be on maximizing your experiences and pre-existing skills and wisdom. I believe in your strengths, and together we will invite them to lead the way. Along the journey you will partner with me, your treatment team, and your available support systems in setting the stage for achieving your goals.
In session you can expect a thoughtful approach. I work with evidence-based treatment methods to help you find a balanced perspective, and new skills for action. I may encourage you to identify and explore thought patterns and behaviors. Then we'll partner up and create a plan for new action. Our time is always centered on you, and the aim is your improved quality of life.
Clients of a wide variety of backgrounds come to me for support, and I am humbled to get to know people from so many walks of life. As a therapist I offer gender-affirming therapy, am sex-worker positive, and have experience working with people who have experienced significant trauma. I also have experience working with BIPOC and those minority backgrounds, and offer therapy in English and in Spanish.
I believe that no matter how complex and confusing life's issues may appear, there is always the opportunity for growth, healing and understanding.
I look forward to collaborating with you.
My passion for helping others began when I started in women’s health after graduating with my Bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies. From there, I decided to dedicate myself to working in the Social Work field. I attended the School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin, where I graduated in May of 2007. During my internships I gained knowledge and was trained in: Solution Focused and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. I worked with high school students who were in danger of dropping out of school, in case management at Brackenridge Hospital where I worked on the medical inpatient floors, and offered Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) at Seton Shoal Creek Hospital.
After discovering a passion for psychiatric care in my internship at Brackenridge Hospital, I realigned from Medical Social Work to Clinical Psychotherapy. I received intensive training in DBT and worked with the Intensive Outpatient Group seeing patients individually and in groups.
I served as a clinical supervisor for both master's interns and new social workers, guiding them as they entered the field. I also worked in a tech-specific corporate office, where I introduced brief interventions and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. My role involved coaching staff on stress management, work-life balance, and solution analysis. I facilitated mindfulness meditation training and short-term problem-solving, and assessed staff for higher levels of care.
Now, I work in a private practice setting here at Continuity Mental Health and offer telehealth services to individuals in Texas. I love what I do and feel very fortunate to be in a career that feels like a calling.
